IntraCrop launches Impetus®, a next generation biostimulant


This year, IntraCrop is launching Impetus®, a new biostimulant designed to significantly improve nutrient use efficiency (NUE) and protect crop performance under abiotic stress. This innovative product was developed in response to increasingly volatile climate conditions and the often-incentivised need for more efficient fertiliser use. Impetus combines advanced biostimulant technologies with targeted nutrition to support yield stability in a wide range of crops. 

Impetus® contains a unique formulation of MTU® and pidolic acid as well as a range of amino acids and Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed extract. In combination, they support photosynthesis, nitrogen assimilation and stress recovery, in turn allowing crops to maintain growth and productivity even when environmental conditions are limiting. 

Climate change is exposing crops to more frequent periods of drought, heat and salinity, while pressure to reduce nitrogen inputs and associated greenhouse gas emissions continues to grow. Impetus® has been developed to address both challenges simultaneously. When used as part of a crop maintenance programme, it improves how efficiently plants use available nutrients, while helping them tolerate and recover from stress. 

MTU®, IntraCrop’s award-winning single-molecule technology, acts directly on photosystem I, enhancing cyclic electron flow within the chloroplast. This mechanism helps protect the photosynthetic apparatus under stress by delaying senescence and supporting sustained carbon assimilation. Pidolic acid plays a critical role in nitrogen, driving assimilation and preventing the accumulation of toxic ammonia in plant tissues. This is particularly important when crops are under stress and growth processes are disrupted. Proline and betaine aid osmotic balance and recovery and Ascophyllum nodosum extract contributes to improved rooting, nutrient uptake, therefore increasing crop ability to withstand abiotic stress.

Impetus® has been trialled across multiple crops and environments, showing consistent improvements in physiological performance and nitrogen use efficiency, as well as increased yield. It has shown good results on edible crops and is particularly well suited to broadacre arable systems and situations where drought or heat stress is a recurring challenge.
