IntraCrop recently hosted a biostimulant training workshop for its agronomy partners, focused on strengthening technical understanding, sharing practical experience and exploring the regulatory context surrounding the use of biostimulants in modern crop production and sustainable agriculture. The workshop formed part of IntraCrop’s ongoing commitment to working closely with agronomists to support confident, evidence-based recommendations in the field.
The session explored how biostimulants can support crop performance under increasingly challenging growing conditions, including drought, heat stress and nutrient limitation. Discussions centred on modes of action, performance consistency and how different biostimulant technologies can be positioned effectively within integrated agronomic programmes. Particular emphasis was placed on understanding how biostimulants work at a physiological level, supporting processes such as photosynthesis, nitrogen use efficiency, rooting and stress tolerance, rather than viewing them as standalone inputs.
As part of the workshop, attendees toured the glasshouse facilities at the University of Nottingham, where they reviewed ongoing pot trials. This provided agronomists with the opportunity to observe biostimulant responses under controlled conditions and to link trial data directly to plant physiology and visible crop performance. Trial results were explored through technical discussion, reinforcing how experimental data can be translated into practical, on-farm decision-making.
Jaroslav Nisler, who led the development of MTU® and TFU®, was present at the workshop and shared updates from ongoing research programmes. He provided agronomists with new insights into recent advances in the understanding of MTU® and TFU®, including their roles in supporting crop performance under abiotic stress and improving nitrogen use efficiency through the protection of key physiological processes.
The day concluded with a collaborative discussion on current barriers, successes and future opportunities within the biostimulant sector. Agronomists shared practical experiences from the field, highlighting the importance of clear positioning, realistic expectations and agronomy-driven solutions.
