Solar Plus: adjuvant, water conditioner and anti-foam

Solar Plus is a highly efficient adjuvant combined with water conditioners and anti-foam. It provides uniform spray coverage over the target surface and reduces the speed of evaporation of the spray solution. This controlled droplet drying action ensures sufficient time for active ingredients to be absorbed by the plant before the spray residue dries on the leaf surface. Solar Plus also reduces alkaline hydrolysis of plant protection products affected by hard water cations (Mg2+ and Ca2+).

What is an adjuvant?

Typically used alongside crop protection products, adjuvants are designed to enhance the efficacy of spray products. They do this by adhering them to the plant surface, giving a more even spray coverage, slowing drying time of spray products to increase absorption, reducing UV degradation or even to lower the pH as a buffering agent. Intracrop has developed a range of adjuvants that work in a range of ways, specifically designed to be partnered with crop protection products.

Why does Solar Plus include a water conditioner?

Water softening has a variety of uses in agriculture for the benefit of the plant as well as for expensive equipment. Hard water cations can affect the efficacy of sensitive plant protection products (PPPs). Some herbicides used in grassland are negatively affected by hard water forming insoluble salts on the leaf surface. Solar Plus has a built-in water conditioner to protect susceptible active substances against this.

When should I use Solar Plus?

Many weeds, especially in a grassland setting are difficult for herbicides to cover and penetrate effectively. This is because they have can have waxy cuticles (Docks, Ragwort etc.) or hairy leaves (Nettles) as a natural defence system. Solar Plus is a very effective wetting and spreading adjuvant enabling much improved surface coverage of herbicides over the target weed. This in turn will improve herbicide penetration and weed control even when using reduced herbicide application rates.

Frequently asked questions

What does Solar Plus do?

Solar Plus functions as a tank‑mix adjuvant, water conditioner and anti‑foam agent. It delivers uniform spray coverage, slows down evaporation of spray droplets and helps protect sensitive active ingredients from degradation in hard water conditions.

How does Solar Plus help with evaporation and absorption?

By slowing droplet drying, Solar Plus ensures that active ingredients stay in contact with the plant surface long enough for effective absorption.

Why is water conditioning important for herbicide effectiveness?

Hard water cations like Mg²⁺ and Ca²⁺ can disrupt sensitive PPPs, forming insoluble residues that reduce spray effectiveness. Solar Plus counteracts this by conditioning the water in the spray tank.

When should I choose Solar Plus for my spray applications?

It’s especially useful when targeting difficult weeds like docks or ragwort, that have waxy or hairy foliage. Solar Plus improves spray wetting and permeability even when using reduced herbicide doses.

How does Solar Plus compare to other adjuvants?

Unlike simpler surfactants or sticker agents, Solar Plus combines water conditioning, spray adhesion support and anti-foam in one formulation, making it a versatile tool for many challenging spray scenarios.

When should Solar Plus be added to the spray tank?

For optimal performance, Solar Plus should be the first product you add to the spray tank. This ensures proper mixing and foam control.

Which herbicides pair best with Solar Plus?

It’s ideally suited for use with sulfonylurea and hormone-based herbicides such as MCPA, dicamba and 2,4-D, boosting their coverage and efficacy particularly on resistant or challenging target weeds.

How does Solar Plus support sustainable or low-dose applications?

By enhancing spray adherence and reducing drift or evaporation losses, Solar Plus helps maximise effectiveness even at reduced herbicide rates. In turn, this supports more sustainable and cost-effective pest management.
