Cogent is the market leading adjuvant for use with translocated grass-weed herbicides (e.g. fop/dim/den and SU). The unique combination of surfactants ensures that the herbicide is coated evenly over the target surface, with up to 45% better coverage than standard oil-based adjuvants. Active penetrant ethoxylated adjuvants increase herbicide uptake by up to 50% in comparison with methylated seed oils (MSOs) ensuring more rapid uptake of active ingredient through target wax layer and no increased crop phytotoxicity.
Dynamic surface tension is reduced so that droplet reflection (bounce off) and run-off losses are minimised and spray retention is increased. The adjuvant combination ensures even coverage of the target. Droplet contact with the target surface (especially waxy or hairy surfaces) is increased improving control.
Cogent increases the penetration of the water repellent cuticular and sub-cuticular waxes resulting in higher PPP efficacy. Cogent is less aggressive than MSO’s in disrupting the outer wax layers so whilst herbicide uptake is
increased, crop safety is improved.
A herbicide adjuvant is added to the tank to improve herbicide performance. This can be done in a range of ways including working as an anti-foam, pH buffering or anti-drift technology.

Cogent is formulated to enhance herbicide adhesion to soil particles and foliage, improving retention of active ingredients and reducing leaching, especially in conditions prone to wash-off.
By strengthening the bond between herbicides and target surfaces (soil or leaf surfaces), Cogent reduces runoff and keeps herbicide where it’s most effective, which protects nearby water sources.
Yes. Cogent’s soil adhesion properties make it effective for pre-emergence products by helping maintain surface coverage, and its foliar adhesion benefits post-emergence sprays by ensuring better leaf retention.
A typical starting rate is 0.5–1.0 L per hectare in the spray volume, though rates may vary based on target weed type, soil texture and weather conditions. Always refer to product-specific recommendations.
Cogent has demonstrated good compatibility with a range of tank-mix partners. However, for specific compatibility, especially with hard water or novel drift agents, we recommend conducting a jar test before full-scale application.
While its primary function is soil and foliage adhesion, Cogent may influence droplet spread. It typically supports better leaf or soil coverage, so combining with a dedicated drift control adjuvant may be beneficial in wind-prone conditions.
Cogent is designed to be effective at low application rates and is safe when used as directed. It doesn’t leave harmful residues or hinder subsequent crop planting and is compatible with standard tillage and re-crop intervals.
By improving deposition and minimizing surface runoff and leaching, Cogent enhances herbicide efficiency, enabling reduced chemical load for the same level of control and supporting environmentally responsible weed management.
