MTU® makes its mark at the Biostimulants World Congress
IntraCrop’s unique, patented molecule MTU® was hailed as one of the only new active compounds to be presented at the 2023 Biostimulants World Congress in Milan. In a presentation entitled, “‘MTU® – a small molecule with a strong effect on stress tolerance and nitrogen use efficiency’, Dr Jaroslav Nisler explained how MTU® improves crop resilience in the face of climate change.
Dr Nisler, who led the development of MTU® on behalf of IntraCrop, highlighted new research on wheat which demonstrated that MTU® delayed both age- and stress-induced senescence. Treatment was seen to improve performance in the photosystems of the plant, especially under drought stress conditions. In optimal conditions, and under drought stress, the wheat showed a faster growth rate than untreated controls.
IntraCrop’s Technical Officer, Emily Way, attending her first Biostimulants World Congress reports, “MTU® was something new for those attending. Lots of people were interested because it is unique. Single molecule biostimulants are recognised as the future but they are like gold dust. MTU® was the only one presented at this year’s flagship event. Only 5% of biostimulants on the market are synthesised, single molecules, making MTU® very special!
“There were many opportunities to network at the Biostimulants World Congress and nearly all the people we met wanted to know more about MTU®, having either seen Jaroslav’s presentation or read the recent article in NewAg. We had the chance to speak with attendees from Africa, America, Asia Pacific and Central and Eastern Europe. The interest in MTU® is becoming global!.”
The Biostimulants World Congress is a key event for stakeholders within the biostimulants and agri-food industries to meet, share new research and data and collaborate and, for IntraCrop, this has proven fruitful.
Dr Mark Palmer, IntraCrop’s Commercial Director said the World Congress was a worthwhile event. “As a science-led organisation, opportunities to share and learn like this are invaluable. Reflecting on what we have heard over the past few days, it is evident that the biostimulants market is on the rise, and that knowledge about them is becoming more mainstream. Growers are more interested in how they can be used within their management programmes. They will want to know that the plant biostimulants they select will deliver on label claims – something we have enormous confidence in. All of our products – including MTU® – are rigorously tested and will continue to be so.
“Our time at the BWC has allowed us to have meaningful conversations with possible new distribution partners. In addition there were many companies keen to discuss combining MTU® with their own products, for example seaweed extract formulations. We are looking forward to continuing those conversations in 2024.”
