Status builds a following in the Mediterranean

New biostimulant, Status, launched this Spring by IntraCrop, is undergoing trials across the Mediterranean countries in partnership with leading distributors and the University of Huelva in Spain.

Andrew Low, Key Account Manager for the region, believes Status is ideal for Mediterranean conditions. “All the crops in this region suffer from intense and regular abiotic stresses like heat and drought,” he said. “Many will also suffer from saline soils, particularly under drip irrigation. The combination of biostimulants in Status boosts root development, increases chlorophyll content and improves nitrate assimilation even under normal conditions and also can protect the photosynthetic structures under environmental stress. This helps crops retain their green leaf area for longer and allows them to recover more quickly from drought both of which should normally improve final yield and quality.”

Status is being tested this season in irrigated crops including potatoes, kiwi and citrus in Greece and a range of horticultural crops in Greece and Spain. For non-irrigated crops, the product is being trialled on wine grapes in Portugal and will be tested in almonds in Spain.  Andrew continues, “We are working closely with our distributor partners to test Status across as broad a range of crops as we can. In addition, the University of Huelva is carrying out an independent trial of Status in irrigated olives. The results will be available later this year but we are expecting them to be positive, based on the weather conditions in Southern Europe this season and the feedback we have received so far.”
