Status trials in winter wheat begin
IntraCrop’s new flagship product, Status, is being trialled in Kent to establish its performance in winter wheat, variety KWS Zyatt. The product was applied in April at T0 and again mid-May at T2 under the farm agronomist’s recommendation.
Status was launched this spring as a pure biostimulant which increases crop nutrient use efficiency and protects the plant against the consequences of abiotic stress. It combines pidolic acid with the award-winning molecule MTU® and in previous small plot trials has delivered exceptional results. These tramline trials are testing those findings in a field scale situation.
Progress is being measured with regular SPAD chlorophyll readings as well as leaf tissue analysis to assess nutrient uptake and therefore nutrient use efficiency. Emily Way, who is managing the trial for IntraCrop, commented, “We are seeing a considerable improvement in nutrient uptake in the Status-treated crops. Tissue testing from 20th June, one month after the last application, showed greater amounts of eight out of the twelve nutrients in the treated crop compared with the control. Nitrogen, potassium and calcium were all 10 – 13% higher in the treated crop, and the numbers were particularly impressive for copper, molybdenum and zinc, each with well over 60% increase. Whilst fertiliser prices remain high, increased nutrient use efficiency will be key to profitability.”
