Phosphite as a biostimulant: IntraCrop supports campaign
IntraCrop is one of six founder members of the Phosphite Biostimulant Stewardship Group (PBSG). The group is funded by its members and focuses on generating and communicating scientific evidence of the efficacy of phosphite as a biostimulant in order to retain its use for the benefit of European farmers.
Phosphite has been used as a biostimulant for many years. It is a well-established, cost effective, proven technology used by farmers across Europe on a wide range of crops. IntraCrop sells a number of products containing the biostimulant phosphite, including Prosper ST seed treatment and Prosper Plus foliar treatment. Phosphite has been excluded from the possible components of fertiliser products in the forthcoming EC fertilising product regulation EC2019/1009. The purpose of the PBSG is to persuade the European regulators to allow the continued use of phosphite, enabling subsequent EU registration under biostimulant regulations.
The PBSG is collaborating with the University of Nottingham and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) to research the mode of action of phosphite in order to provide further evidence on top of the considerable body of research that already exists. Phosphite is one of the most consistently performing biostimulants on the market and should continue to be accessible to growers in the future.
