ProCam agronomist, Nigel Scott, reports positive results with Talisman®
ProCam Agronomist, Nigel Scott, has highlighted the strong potential of oilseed rape (OSR) crops in the north-east of England this season, emphasising the importance of targeted nutrition and disease management to maximise both yield and oil content.
Speaking from the field, Nigel reported that crops have established well and remain in a promising position. “This year’s OSR went in well in the autumn and has not looked back,” he explained. “Crops are currently full of potential, so it’s key that we now focus on maximising that opportunity – both in terms of yield and oil content.”
As crops move into the flowering period, Nigel is using a combined approach of fungicides alongside nutritional inputs. “There are two key priorities at this stage,” he said. “Firstly, keeping the plant clean from disease, and secondly, supporting it with the right nutrition to carry that potential through to harvest.”
Nigel has been using Talisman® as part of his nutritional programme for several years, citing consistent positive responses in crop performance. “Talisman® provides a balanced nutritional package based around NPK, alongside essential micronutrients that help keep the plant green and healthy later into the season,” he noted. “At this stage, nutrition can often become a limiting factor, so maintaining that supply is critical.”
He also highlighted the role of specific components within the formulation. “Pidolic acid plays an important role in supporting nitrogen assimilation within the plant, helping it to utilise nitrogen more efficiently and maintain overall health,” Nigel explained. “In addition, R100 supports the uptake and movement of nutrients, ensuring the plant can fully benefit from what is being applied.”

In healthy conditions, pidolic acid increases chlorophyll concentration and nitrogen assimilation, R100 boosts cytokinin concentrations and the combination powers growth. Absorption of foliar nutrients through the waxy cuticle is increased by R100 and dimethyl sulphone, helping drive yield.
In challenging conditions, Talisman can be used at the onset of abiotic stress (e.g. drought, heat, rapid growth) to help alleviate symptoms. The pidolic acid maintains chlorophyll concentration and green leaf retention, reducing toxic ammonia build up and associated leaf yellowing.
In stressed conditions, R100 and dimethyl sulphone ensure foliar nutrients are readily available to maintain the plant and prime it for recovery.
Based on his experience, Nigel has observed measurable yield benefits from incorporating Talisman® into OSR programmes. “Over the last few years, I’ve seen some significant responses – in some cases around half a tonne per hectare,” he said. “With current grain prices, it’s more important than ever to maximise every opportunity to improve returns.”
This season, Nigel plans to continue integrating Talisman® with flowering fungicide applications to optimise crop performance. “Applying Talisman® alongside flowering fungicides is a practical way to ensure the crop is both protected and supported nutritionally at a critical timing,” he added. “It’s about giving the grower the best possible chance of achieving the crop’s full potential.”
