Emily Way Achieves BASIS

IntraCrop now has multiple BASIS-qualified team members

IntraCrop is pleased to share that Emily Way, Technical Officer, has passed her BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection (Agriculture). This rigorous course covered the agronomy of the key UK crops: cereals, oilseed rape, sugar beet, potatoes, peas, beans, maize and grass with a focus on the use of integrated solutions.

Emily first joined IntraCrop on a professional placement in 2021/22, where she quickly impressed the team with her technical understanding and passion for crop science. On completing her degree, she returned to the company and begun a full-time role. This is something the team is particularly proud of, as IntraCrop has a strong history of nurturing home-grown talent.

By achieving her BASIS Certificate, Emily now meets the UK legal requirement to provide formal advice on plant protection products. This qualification also ensures she is eligible for listing on the BASIS Professional Register and commits her to ongoing professional development in line with Red Tractor and LEAF standards.

Emily explains, “While BASIS is focused on crop protection inputs, for me the course was about broadening my agricultural knowledge and understanding how biostimulants can complement traditional management. Spending time with agronomists gave me valuable insight into the decisions they make, the product choices they weigh up and the issues they are looking to combat in agricultural crops throughout the season. Although not a pesticide and therefore not covered in BASIS, biostimulants have been shown to increase plant resilience reducing the impact of diseases for example. It has really helped me apply that thinking to our IntraCrop’s products and the recommendations we make, especially around application timings, crop growth stages and the excellent tank mix compatibility we can offer alongside pesticides.”

Emily’s success follows on from Michael Noonan and Tom Godfrey also earning their BASIS and FACTS qualifications respectively last year, meaning IntraCrop now has a wide range of technical expertise available to customers.
