Biostimulant trials in Germany show early promise

Jack Hill visits growers in Germany to find out more about their trials

In late June, IntraCrop’s Account Manager, Jack Hill, travelled across Germany to connect with growers and deepen his understanding of biostimulant performance in local conditions and how they are used in the country. Over three days, Jack visited nine farms spanning from the Danish border in the north down to Lower Saxony, covering a wide range of crops including oats, sugar beet, winter wheat, potatoes, and maize.

The trip focused on working with forward-thinking farmers who are eager to tackle the challenges of climate change and explore ways to push yield and quality further despite challenging conditions. A key highlight of these visits was introducing IntraCrop’s single-molecule biostimulant approach, which remains unique in the German market.

Whilst he was there, Jack visited wheat and sugar beet trials near Hanover hosted by farmers who play a key role in demonstrating and disseminating new agricultural technologies or practices within their regions by testing new products or approaches first, sharing the results with other farmers. They are respected and trusted by other growers locally.

Overall, their feedback was positive, noting visibly greener leaves, delayed senescence, bigger ears, fewer small side tillers, and less stem-based disease in wheat treated with Status®. Chlorophyll content measurements in the field confirmed higher nitrogen uptake in treated plots, suggesting stronger plant health and nutrient use efficiency.

Early visual differences have been promising, with some farmers estimating a potential 5–10% increase in yield. In addition to yield data, quality parameters such as protein content and dry matter will also be measured at harvest to provide a comprehensive view of performance.

Reflecting on the tour, Jack commented, “It was fantastic to see first hand how open and engaged these growers are to new technologies. The initial results demonstrate the potential of our single-molecule approach to improve both yield and quality, while supporting more resilient farming systems in the face of climate change.”
