Events roundup: summer 2024
The IntraCrop team have been hard at work this summer, attending a variety of events designed to introduce growers to biostimulants, widen the understanding of them amongst the agrifood chain, exchange insight from data, and network within the industry. By attending, the team has ensured they remain at the forefront of agricultural innovation, participating nationwide. Jack, Tom, Mark and Emily have been actively engaged in showcasing IntraCrop’s latest advancements and working alongside market leaders in their field.
Throughout the summer the team have embarked on a whirlwind tour of Frontier 3D Thinking events, British Sugar’s Technical Morning, Groundswell, Cereals, Back to the Future and the High Level Summit!
The 3d Thinking events have taken place across the UK, from Kent to Yorkshire. They primarily shared the latest trials results on Status® and Nutrino Pro, which gathered positive feedback from growers and industry experts. A major highlight of these events was the live demonstration of Status®, focussing on wheat senescence testing. This practical exhibit allowed attendees to witness first-hand the potential of Status® in action, showcasing how it can enhance chlorophyll retention leading to higher crop yield and quality.
At the 3D Thinking Days, the team also took part in biostimulant nutrient use efficiency (NUE) trial tours at the Bleasby and Kent sites. These tours highlighted how reduced nitrogen applications, combined with novel technologies such as Status® and Nutrino Pro, can significantly improve efficiency and sustainability in agriculture. The trials demonstrated the potential of biostimulants to revolutionise crop management practices.
Emily Way says, “Attendees were particularly impressed by the environmental safety aspects, which are crucial in today’s regulatory landscape, where sustainability is becoming better incentivised. IntraCrop’s technologies are proven to help reduce carbon footprints by minimising emissions associated with traditional soil-applied fertilisers. The team delved into the evolving landscape of biostimulant regulations, particularly the introduction of the CE Mark, which raises standards across the industry. Two of our products, Status® and Talisman®, are now CE Mark Certified, making them available to growers across the member states.”
The British Sugar Technical Morning provided a platform for discussing integrated approaches to sugar beet nutrition. Also in attendance were representatives from the British Beet Research Organisation and the British Sugar agronomy team. This event offered valuable insights into application techniques and alternative nitrogen sources, emphasising the role of biostimulants in improving Nutrient Use Efficiency (NUE) and reducing amino-N impurities.
Jack attended Cereals 2024, where he was invited to contribute to the Yagro podcast. He gave his insights into current cutting-edge agricultural practices and the role biostimulants play in modern farming, providing listeners with a deeper understanding of their use, results and trials data.
Tom represented IntraCrop at Groundswell 2024, an event known for its focus on regenerative agriculture and sustainable farming practices. Tom utilised his time walking around the event, talking to current IntraCrop clients, talking out their intercompany relationships and their future plans with IntraCrop products. Tom also attended lectures discussing ‘Management of Blackgrass in Arable Rotations’ & ‘Understanding Biostimulants’, with the aim of gaining a deeper understand on what the general perception of biostimulants are first hand.
Tom said that, ‘Although we did not have a stand there, our presence there was well received as I spoke to a multitude of people either on our parent companies stand, Frontier, or when walking around, discussing biostimulants and their role within our future. Our vision goes hand in hand with the main promotional theme of the event, an eco-friendly farming solution.’
Mark attended EBIC’s flagship event, its annual Summit. Mark attended in his role as co-leader of the Agronomy Project Team. The Summit is designed to bring together biostimulant companies with policymakers and others within in agrifood chain, to discuss the future of biostimulants, their role in the wider industry, and how to get growers to engage and invest in their use.
Mark said, “The annual Summit is always a great opportunity for likeminded professionals to come together and really take time to discuss where we need the industry to be, and how to remove any barriers. As a science-led organisation, IntraCrop is transparent with its end users, providing them and any relevant regulatory officials with clear data as to how the product will impact a variety of crops, and the best timings and conditions to use them under. The Summit this year focussed on removing barriers for growers and helping to educate them on their use, something close to our hearts – it was a great event.”
Most recently, Jack attended the Back to the Future event hosted by The Biological Farmers, where he delivered a presentation titled, “Using Biostimulants to Reduce Carbon Emissions, Increase Nutrient Use Efficiency, and Improve Tolerance to Crop Stress Factors.”
Jack says, “This event emphasised the principles of biological farming, a system dedicated to employing nature’s solutions to create environmentally friendly agricultural practices. We want growers to feel more confident in utilising biostimulants to enhance nutrient efficiency and stress tolerance, and this aligned perfectly with the event’s focus on sustainability.”
The summer of 2024 has been a busy time for the team and as the year progresses, more educational and networking events will be taking place, with the team attending to further improve the knowledge and understanding of biostimulants, their mode of action and the results they are able to provide for growers and for a more sustainable future.
