Biostimulants offer solutions to drought stress in France
With warmer, drier summers becoming more common and temperatures of 40 degrees regularly exceeded, drought stress and improved nutrient use efficiency are high on the agenda for farmers in France. Throughout 2023, IntraCrop has been involved in a variety of trials using Status, Nutrino Pro and Talisman® across the country.
Alongside protection from abiotic stress, farmers in France are keen to find ways to reduce fertiliser and crop protection inputs, so our trials were focussed on showing how our products can help and provide solutions.
Throughout June the team attended open days run by agricultural distributors Krysop, InVivo and Actura. French agronomists were keen to understand how the products function and how best to advise farmers on their use. At all the events, we held meaningful conversations around soil health, crop establishment, rotation and reducing crop inputs.
We were able to present results from a variety of crops, including oilseed rape, wheat, winter wheat, grain maize and sunflower Trials looked at using as a way to reduce synthetic inputs such as Nitrogen and crop protection products, improving soil health, crop health, Nutrient Use Efficiency and, eventually, yield. Some trials are yet to conclude, but positive results have been shown where synthetic inputs were reduced in favour of biostimulant use. As a result, the Krysop Group plans to launch Talisman® and Nutrino Pro over the next few months.
Results are yet to be finalised for our award-winning biostimulant technology MTU®, which is proven to support a range of crops undergoing abiotic stress, it offers a novel solution to common environmental challenges in France. In stressed conditions, MTU® protects the photosynthetic apparatus and improves plant resilience, resulting in quicker recovery. This provides support during the increasingly extreme weather conditions France is experiencing.
