Home-grown talent returns as Emily Way joins the team

IntraCrop is pleased to be able to welcome Emily Way back to the team, having spent her professional placement with them 2021/22. Emily has recently completed her degree with the University of Exeter, where she achieved a first in Biological Sciences.

IntraCrop Commercial Director, Mark Palmer, says, “It is really important to us to invest in our team. As a science-led organisation, fostering the best talent for the future is at the heart of what we do. Emily’s ability was immediately apparent to us when she spent time here during her studies and we are pleased that she has returned to work for us full time. Her contribution will be valued, and we welcome this opportunity to expand our technical expertise and resource. Welcome back Emily!”

Emily will be taking on the role of Technical Officer and will be working on IntraCrop’s trial design and protocols and data analysis. Results will be fed back to the technical team and, together with Emily, they will use this data to help in biostimulant design and registration.

She tells us, “I really wanted to come back to IntraCrop, having really enjoyed my time here whilst I was at University. I learnt so much in a short amount of time. It is an exciting time for IntraCrop with some exceptional results coming in from trials of Status across a wide range of crops and with plans for the development of new technologies. I hope to be a great asset when it comes to developing new products. My dissertation title was ‘Zymoseptoria tritici: insights into pathogen biology reveal novel strategies for control of Septoria tritici blotch’. In layman’s terms, I was investigating the life cycle of the pathogen and reviewing current methods of control, as well as looking into ‘the way ahead’ for new methods. I spent time assessing the effectiveness of biological control and mixed cultivars, looking at potential new fungicide targets, anti-fungal proteins and genome editing.

“There has been great progress whilst I’ve been away so I am really looking forward to getting my teeth stuck in again. It is a fantastic team and they are being very supportive, welcoming me back and getting me up to speed.”
