2023 has been a busy time for the IntraCrop technical team, with the establishment of 125 different trials across the UK, EU and beyond. Investing in this level of research will allow IntraCrop to give growers guidance on how to get the most from biostimulants in multiple crops, across multiple countries.
IntraCrop’s trials network , has further expanded, with work beginning in Morocco and Canada. These trials will include over 30 crop types, ranging from cereals to asparagus and vines. They will cover a range of research points, with main focus on Nutrient Use Efficiency (NUE), abiotic stress reduction and crop safety, yield and quality.
The studies aim to provide the best, proven advice on biostimulant timing, dose rate and crop use to give clear evidence to customers on their unique activity and sequencing.

“Alongside field trials related to technical support and application guidance, we are also conducting GEP trials for conformity assessment to support the CE mark certification for our core biostimulant range across the EU27. We are fully supportive of the new Fertilising Products Regulation as it applies to biostimulants, as we believe it will allow farmers to be confident about the function, efficacy and safety of biostimulant products. IntraCrop has been providing this type of information to our customers for a long time, but it’s great to see a new regulatory framework where this level of detail is now required by all companies.”
As well as researching best use of current biostimulants, IntraCrop is investing in new projects with university collaborators to help develop the next generation of plant biostimulants. Each new product will go through an extensive development process including a full scientific review, proof of concept trials, glasshouse and field trials. Jack Hill explains:
31st July 2023“It takes between five and eight years from identification of a biostimulant molecule to the launch of a new product. At IntraCrop we think it’s important to go through the full process so that by the time we launch a biostimulant we have a full understanding of its mode of action, application rates and timing. This means growers can start using the products knowing exactly how they work and what results to expect.”
